Security & UXO Studies

Security

As the submarine cable industry expands in all areas of the globe, the likelihood of conducting operations in high-threat environments or those which pose an increased risk from explosive remnants of war increases. Pelagian can provide the customer with up to the minute information about the world's danger areas where there is a risk of personnel being subject to kidnap, armed conflict, piracy or exposure to possible unexploded ordnance.

Security Profiling

Pelagian offers a worldwide capability to provide in-depth threat and risk assessment studies, reviewing both marine and terrestrial security issues. Our consultants compile detailed risk assessment reports and develop mitigation strategies for government agencies and commercial activities. Our studies include the policing of maritime boundaries, the impact of illegal marine activities and assessing the risk to personnel and assets.

Personal Security

Pelagian have extensive worldwide experience of working in frontier countries, where there is a potential threat of kidnap and armed conflict. Pelagian believe personal safety is the number one priority, we can provide our customers with tailor made safety briefings with training being provided by own skilled advisors.  Where necessary we can offer close protection security teams and anti piracy measures for vessels.

UXO Studies

Pelagian's consultants are world leading experts in the risk assessment and hazard management of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and explosive remnants of war (ERW).

Many of our employees and consultants have served in HM Forces, a significant proportion within the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) arena.

Pelagian's UXO consultants are not affiliated with any UXO clearance contractors to ensure an unbiased risk assessment which is benchmarked against the appropriate industry standards. Pelagian's methodology for assessing UXO risk is based on a three tiered strategy:-

Initial Study

  • Researching historical and military databases
  • Determining UXO types and geographical extents
  • Potential impact to offshore operations

Field Based Research

  • Survey of potential UXO sites
  • Identifying areas of UXO concentration
  • Liaison with military and maritime authorities

Mitigation Strategy

  • Determining an effective avoidance or clearance strategy
  • Providing a cost analysis
  • Providing UXO survey advice and capability
